The Visitor
Short Story
2021 New York Scholastic Silver Key
This short story was written for a scary story contest put on by my school's literary magazine, Zephyr. My involvement in Zephyr has inspired nearly all of my short stories and poems and continually fills me with creative motivation. This particular story was also inspired by some advice from the club's instructor, who told us to keep in mind that the element of suspense is much scarier than the actual monster. I normally don't have a taste for the macabre or scary (I'm a famous hater of horror movies), but I wanted to challenge myself to write a piece that would make readers as uncomfortable as possible.
The Gen Z Dilemma
Coming to Grips with the End of the World
Personal Essay
This personal essay was written as my final project for a course I took in the Harvard Precollege Program. The course was called Crisis Journalism: Writing Articles, Podcasts, and Essays in a State of Emergency. It discussed different types of short- and long-form investigative pieces, as well as personal essays. This piece was inspired by the style of Joan Didion and other aspects of New Journalism.
The Power of the Dress
A Dissertation on Color in Fashion
Essay
This argumentative essay was born from a joke. A discussion with my friend Sammy about which color prom dress I should wear ended in this text from him: "Write a synthesis essay about it and make sure to include direct quotes!!!" An hour later, Sammy received a little gift in his inbox: this essay.
